Why See The Effect?
Love and Other drugs
After the success of her searing look at financial corruption in ENRON, Lucy Prebble returns with this twinkling and exceedingly intriguing exploration of our obsession with pharmaceuticals and how they define us. Following the love story of Connie and Tristan, two drugs trial volunteers hopped up on a new super anti-depressant, The Effect raises some big questions about what makes us who we are, how chemically manipulating our emotions contributes to that. Directed by Bill English.
First seen in London, this UK Critic's Circle Best New Play winner captures the couple as they first fall for each other in a swish private clinic. But after the first rush of giddy love, can they truly trust themselves or each other? Add to this medical professionals wrestling with ethical concerns and the intricacies of Big Pharma and you've got one big dose of excellent new theatre.
