Great Performance Until a Front Row Heckler Interrupted a Song, and Altered the Usual Finale
Damien Rice pours his heart out in his music, especially live. After playing nine songs, including taking audience requests and gracefully obliging, a rude man in the front row interrupted a heartfelt song by shouting his vulgar displeasure at people who were invited to stand in front of the stage (by Damien). Damien had to stop in the middle of the song (a duet of "Astronaut" then after a brief delay, he restarted and finished the song). You could feel the energy drain from the Auditorium. Two nights earlier in NYC, Damien performed 16 songs including the finale of his most famous song "The Blower's Daughter." In Chicago, he cut his set short to 15 songs (without the song we travelled a thousand miles to see). It's unfortunate that one person was selfish enough to nuke what was an epic performance up until that point.
Great Show!
Loved the performance. Was curious why there weren’t any tracks from faded fantasy played or Blower’s Daughter. Thought it might be with traveling light the songs just weren’t condusive to an acoustic performance. Hope he still plays them and I can catch them in the future.
