This was my first time seeing Neal perform live, though I'm a fan of his Netflix specials, his podcast and of course his behind the scenes genius on the Chappell Show. Neal is a bling-free comic who confidently relied on his jokes to do the heavy lifting in his stand up performance. His material was fresh and intellectual. One of the most refreshing elements of his Saturday night performance was how minimally he relied on four-letter words, which have become a low brow common denominator with many of today’s comics (IMO). I didn't realize his non-reliance on f-bombs and such until long after the show. He was no tea-toddler by any means, his subject matters had no boundaries. He just doesn't lean on “shock values” or cliches to be belly-laugh funny. His successful writing career was evidenced by the totally unique material and subject matters he curated. Personally, I prefer a little showmanship in a stand-up performance, but to his credit Neal threw strike after strike of hilarious concepts, relying solely on laughter-inducing funny writing and ideas of his own making. He must be admired among his peers for his ability to create and write so funny and prolifically. 👏👏
