San Francisco Symphony - Duke Bluebeards Castle at Davies Symphony Hall

Why see San Francisco Symphony - Duke Bluebeards Castle?

Multisensory Music

In a one-of-a-kind meeting of music and perfumery, San Francisco Symphony Orchestra present a stunning multisensory performance of Bela Bartok's opera Duke Bluebeards Castle as well as Alexander Scriabin's tone poem Prometheus, The Poem of Fire. Conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen, the performance features the talents of Jean-Yves Thibaudet on piano, famed scent specialist Mathilde Laurent (Cartier's in-house perfumer) and lighting designer Luke Kritzek, all collaborating to create a concert which will delight all of the human senses as one.

Bluebeard's Castle is a dark, erotic thriller, combining fantasy and the dangers of too much knowledge. When Judith leaves her peaceful life behind to explore the darkness of Bluebeard, she is faced with seven locked doors within his domain. Some of these doors contain horrors, others treasure - but will she see what lies behind the last door - and what will it mean for her?
