Largely drawn from the award-winning singer's own story, the Hells Kitchen is based on Keys' own life growing up in the Bronx. Maleah Joi Moon won the 2024 Tony for Best Leading Actress in a Musical for her role, with Kecia Lewis winning Best Featured Actress in a Musical.

Following its New York debut, San Francisco Playhouse stages Kesselring Prize-winning playwright Candrice Jones's FLEX, a compelling and inspiring new play about the hoops and hurdles faced by a high school girls' basketball team from Arkansas. The Lady Train team dreams of becoming professional basketball players, but from the outset are beset by the challenges of marginalization, being young black female athletes from a rural hometown.
