Happy Mean Girls day one and all! Ever since Tina Fey’s totally fetch film graced our presence in 2004, October 3rd has become a national holiday (well not quite, but it should be). With the stage musical lighting up Broadway and garnering 12 Tony nominations, it’s time to delve into why Mean Girls is like the groolest show ever.
The Songs
As part of the movie to musical process, writing extraordinaire's Jeff Richmond (music) and Nell Benjamin (lyrics) created 21 brand new songs to accompany Cady on her journey through the highs and lows of high school. With tracks like Apex Predator, Revenge Party and I'd Rather Be Me, Mean Girls finally gets the soundtrack we've been waiting for.
The Cast
With three of their 12 Tony nominations for the brilliant cast (Taylor Louderman, Grey Henson, Ashley Park) you're definitely in safe hands as your favorite film becomes your favorite musical! With Louderman leading the way as Queen B, Regina George, be prepared to be scared! Our Broadway reviewer even said she 'draws you in and keeps you on the edge of your seat wondering what she will do next!' (Read her full review here) Alongside Ashley Park (Gretchen Weiners) displaying perfect comedic timing, Tina Fey's brilliant writing comes into full effect.
The Story
We all know and love the plot, but amongst all the quotes, plots of revenge and tap dance breaks Mean Girls leaves all of us with a profound message, let's just be nice to one another yeah? Whether you're in high school or it's just a distant memory, one thing's for sure, let's learn from the Plastic's mistakes!
So grab your girls, and guys, and celebrate Mean Girls Day by booking your tickets to the fetchest musical on Broadway!
