Author KittyKitty, February 25th, 2025

Our pick of the top shows coming to town this March

We did it, we got through February, and March (and spring with it) is on the way, which also means more fantastic shows coming to town! See our picks of the month below.

Nobody Loves You
Toni Rembe Theatre
February 28 - March 30

Reality TV gets a musical makeover

In a last-ditch effort to get back with his ex, Jeff has found himself on the popular TV dating show "Nobody Loves You". Although his initial tactic is to sabotage everything the show puts in his path, the real drama catches up with him when he instead begins to fall for the show's no-nonsense producer Jenny, who'd rather be making proper movies than trash TV. In this climate of superficially manufactured, commodified love, can a genuine connection truly be found?

Written by local Tony Award-winner Itamar Moses and fellow Bay Area native Gaby Alter, and directed by American Conservatory Theater's artistic director Pam McKinnon, this joyously witty musical makes us look inward at dating in today's age!

Great scott! Don't miss Doc and Marty in this exhilarating stage adaptation

The hit 80's franchise is the latest movie sensation to receive a Broadway musical adaptation. The production follows Marty McFly and kooky scientist Doc Brown as they travel through space and time, finding themselves in a series of mishaps. Will these two-time travelers ever find their way back home?

Conceived by the film's original creators (Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale), this brand-new musical adaptation is directed by John Rando with a book by Bob Gale and original music and lyrics by Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard. Some songs from the franchise's original soundtrack, like "The Power Of Love" and "Johnny B Goode".

San Francisco Ballet - Frankenstein
War Memorial Opera House
March 20 - May 4

The spine-chilling ballet is back by popular demand

Liam Scarlett's celebrated production of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein returns to San Francisco in March 2025. Scarlett's work has been lauded for its psychological complexities and expressive movement in dance. His first full-length ballet, Frankenstein brings to life the troubled Dr. Frankenstein and his equally tragic Creature, exploring man's desire to create and moving away from its "horror" label.

The original story of Frankenstein has mostly been forgotten with the advent of Hammer Horror movies, and now the Creature is a staple of pop culture, even laughable with his flat top haircut and neck bolts. However, Scarlett's rich and evocative production turns down the horror angle, and transforms it into a Gothic love story with a tragic end worthy of opera, with an emphasis on exploring what it means to be human.

Russell continues to stand out in his career, known for his sell-out tours and his smash hit show The Russell Howard Hour, which garnered over 100 million viral views in its first season, it's no surprise that he's returning to the US with a brand new show.
