Spring is nearly here, and as the trees get their leaves back and the flowers start to bloom, so too does the live entertainment scene in San Francisco. Featuring the welcome return of Six and Mamma Mia, three new local plays, fantastic concerts, and more, check out our top picks of live shows this month.

Move over Hamilton, there's a new soundtrack in town and it's JUST as infectious! Henry VIII's six wives are stepping out from the big man's shadow to take their turn in the spotlight in this epically good new musical! Created by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, SIX is a celebration of girl power - from the 16th Century to today - and debuted on the West End in 2018 to fantastic reviews. With an infectious songbook and costumes to make Gaga or Queen Bey jealous, this outstanding show pushes the boundaries of musical theatre! Much like Hamilton, Six injects its historical story with modern-day attitudes and modern-day music, serving up a dizzying whirl of pop and comedy, and an all-female cast. Don't miss it!

Mamma Mia!

It's time to break out the platform shoes and feather boas - Mamma Mia is BACK! With 25 years since this sunshine-filled show redefined the concept of the jukebox musical for the new century. It's a bittersweet yet hilarious story of single mother Donna, struggling to cope with her young daughter's impending marriage on a picturesque Greek island. Throw into the mix three lovers from her past, any of whom could be the father of her daughter. Sparks are sure to fly!

San Francisco Playhouse
James Ijames' Pulitzer Prize-winning play comes to the San Francisco Playhouse, continuing their fantastic 2024/25. A wildly imaginative and socially-charged reimagining of Shakespeare's Hamlet, Fat Ham transforms the Prince of Demark's dour castle into a place at a BBQ cookout in the South, where Juicy, a queer college student, must decide whether to avenge his father's death or carve a new path for his future.

Two Trains Running
April 15 - May 4
Toni Rembe Theatre

Depicting racial segregation in 20th Century America, Two Trains Running tells the story of the black American migration to Northern states in order to escape the harsh Jim Crow Laws and how years later, they were still affected by this move. The play was first performed in 1990, before entering Broadway in 1992 and then becoming a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for drama.

The Comedy of Errors

A firm favorite of Shakespeare's oeuvre, The Comedy of Errors is a colorful confection of chaos full of witty wordplay, frothy farce, and irresistible anarchy. This bubbly comedy will whisk you to a faraway land where the fortunes of two sets of identical twins opens up a world of romance, seductions, brushes with the law and of course, plenty of instances of mistaken identity! Tony-nominee Christina Anderson's update refreshes the jokes while keeping all the timeless charm and is not to be missed!
