The San Francisco Playhouse returns with the 2021/22 season, their most important year yet. With a mixture of classic theatre, exciting world premieres, and a stupendous musical finale, it's gearing up to be another unforgettable season from the esteemed company. The fourth show, beginning in spring 2022, comes from Jessica Huan. Known for her supernatural realism, she deftly tells the story of Chinese National Harry Chin, and the secrets his forged documentation forced him to keep after arriving in the US.

What is the story?

Known as a 'paper son', Harry Chin's American life is shrouded in secrecy, even his family is kept in the dark. Now middle-aged, Harry divulges his tale, its loves, regrets, and more. Dreamlike and bounding through time and space, The Paper Dreams of Harry Chin shines a light on the stories many Chinese immigrants may recognize, examing the consequences of making a group of people 'illegal'.
