First opened in 1912 it became the focal point of the counterculture movement and the San Francisco Sound in the 1960s when music promoter Bill Graham took over and is now one of rock's most legendary venues, referred to in the same breath as New York's CBGB or London's Marquee Club. Playing host to and fostering the careers of the decade's biggest artists including Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, The Greatful Dead, Jefferson Starship, The Who, The Doors and many more, it retains its crown as the place to see top artists live to this day. Fusing classical architecture with modern design and an incredible display of rock posters, fans can enjoy an intimate show and expect an apple after - a tradition started by Graham at still endures today!
