Mfoniso Udofia's extraordinary tale of immigration and family
Following over 25 years of trailblazing drama, San Francisco's American Conservatory Theater's fearless artistic director Carey Perloff passes the torch to fellow Obie Award winner Pam McKinnon, one of American Theatre's brightest leading lights. McKinnon kicks off her inaugural 2018/19 season with a program of culturally diverse, relevant and incisive works, including ACT's MFA program graduate Mfoniso Udofia's extraordinary tale of immigration and family Her Portmanteau.
A powerful portrayal of the cultural divide across three different generations of African immigrants from Lagos and an exploration of the ties that bind, Her Portmanteau follows a mother and her daughters as they confront the clash between Nigerian traditions and the realities of life in America, as well as a family legacy that spans the decades, oceans and language barriers.
