Macy was nominated for an Oscar and a SAG award for his portrayal of Jerry Lundergard, a car dealer who attempts to orchestrate the kidnapping of his wife in a desperate bid for money. The movie itself won an Oscar and a BAFTA, with Joel Coen winning Best Director at the Cannes Film Festival. Named by the American Film Institute in 2008 as one of the 100 Greatest American Films, it inspired the Emmy and Golden Globe winning FX spinoff series of the same name, which has just reached its 5th season.
