Why see Into The Woods?

Not All Fairytales Have A Happy Ending

A darkly witty show, Into the Woods delves into the fairytale world created by the Grimm brothers. With cameos and vignettes by Cinderella, Jack (of the beanstalk), Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel and more making an appearance in the tale of a simple baker and his wife, who have been cursed by the Wicked Witch. As the plot unfolds, we see the consequences of a wish and how they can start of being everything you ever dreamed of, and evolve into the reason for your despair.

A much-cherished entry in the Broadway canon, Into The Woods first appeared on Broadway in 1986 starring Bernadette Peters and has been revived many times since; it even saw its transfer to the big screen starring Anna Kendrick, Johnny Depp and Meryl Streep.

The moral of this story? Sadly we all must come to terms with growing up, and happily ever after was only ever just a story.

BRILLIANT

A stunning, fresh and innovative version of the classic Into The Woods musical. The 11 cast members did the job with no costumes or sets, just talent beyond excellent telling a complicated, deep and dark tale through the complicated and challenging music of Stephen Sondheim. The entire production was sheer genius. ... Read more

Great actors and incredible music!

We loved the show! The acting and singing were phenomenal, the music was beyond awesome. It was long but entertaining the whole time. We also ate at a great place beforehand called the Farmers Market which had very good food including gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options. The veggie melt was unique and good, and my husband loved his grass fed burger. We went for a Sunday matinee which required masks, i suppose to make it an all-inclusive event which we were totally ok with. We found a parking spot half a block away from the theater since it was Sunday, total bonus! The drink selection during the intermission was extremely limited so had to drink something i dont like but I was just grateful to have something with caffeine before the 2nd half. No dress code but we still dressed up! We love the Guthrie! ... Read more

The cow steals the show!

No lie. The human characters have been perfectly cast, all the way down to third spear-chucker on the left. Their performances of this beautiful piece will rend your heart. But Kennedy Kanagawa brings to life an ear-twitching, eye-blinking, milk-deficient, udderly adorable animal character without which the witch will fail in her quest. Who woulda thunk that this stand-up gal would be so crucial to the heart of the story? Do not miss this production - the seeing of it is a tale you will tell to your children. ... Read more
