The Wedding Singer

The Wedding Singer at Victoria Theater

Why see The Wedding Singer?

Shot through the heart

Rock back to the heady days of the 80s, when hairspray was in high demand and an outfit wasn't complete without voluminous shoulder pads. This is the world of Robbie Hart, a wedding singer with rock star ambitions whose joy in his work is doubled by his own impending nuptials. But even though he may be New Jersey's choice of wedding entertainment, his own road to the altar is not so smooth. Enter Julia, a delightful waitress who might just help Robbie rediscover his purpose and his heart!

Based on the hit Adam Sandler movie, Bay Area Musicals present this hilarious and touching adaptation from Ched Beguelin, Tim Herlihy and Matthew Sklav that tells Robbie's story with fabulous new song and dance numbers, romance and plenty of 80s references.

YOU’D WANT TO HIRE THIS WEDDING SINGER FOR YOUR NEXT WEDDING

The party to check out this winter is the on going Wedding in SF's Mission district. The 80’s comes alive in Bay Area Musicals’ THE WEDDING SINGER now on stage through March 17th at The Victoria Theatre. With fantastic performances, sizzling choreography, and a catchy score THE WEDDING SINGER is the ultimate of the feel good musical. This celebration of big hair and big love takes a bit to hit its stride with some of the lines in the opening scenes feeling rushed, yet it’s still got a whole lot going for it. It might not be the most remarkable musical as it’s eternally beholden to the movie, however, it gives you warm fuzzies for a couple of hours, and sometimes that’s everything you could want or need. Its recipe of romance, silliness, and keen design elements make this musical comedy a winter must see. Next up at BAM is Disney's THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME that opens July 7th. But in the meantime you don’t need a wedding invite to see THE WEDDING SINGER - tickets are selling fast ... Read more

Lots of Fun! Go see this show!

Great show with good singing and lots of enthusiasm. Definitely a fun night out. This is a good night out for anyone who likes live performance theater, and more so if you are old enough to get all the jokes about 80s music. To be clear - this is not a "jukebox musical" with covers of well-known 80s songs - all the songs are original to the play. However, it is set in the 80s and there are lots of (funny) references to the music of that time (and fashions, and...). Seats were great - 3rd row (the theater is not that big, I think any seat would be ok. There are a couple "cabaret style" tables up front but I doubt that they are worth paying up for (we were 20 feet away from the stage, they were 10 feet away). Sound system was clear. 16th street BART is less than 100 yards away, and there are LOTS of dining options on Valencia St. a couple blocks away down 16th. We went to West of Pecos and had the "puff tacos" - very good. ... Read more
