San Francisco Ballet present boundary-pushing works by two talented women, about two powerful female icons in culture, both fictional and historical. Olivier-Award winning choreographer Arielle Smith's stunning take on the opera classic Carmen features for its world premiere, with a soundtrack written by the Grammy winning jazz musician and composer Arturo O'Farrill.
Anabelle Lopez Ochoa's much lauded masterpiece Broken Wings also stars for it's North America premiere. Celebrating the striking world of legendary Mexican artist and revolutionary figure Frida Kahlo, the colorful work is backed by the sounds of Mexican folk music and a score by Peter Salem.
