Aszure Barton creates dances that contain worlds where light and dark, grace and rawness, and mystery and certitude intermingle. The inventive quirkiness in her dances hovers in worlds fantastical, primal, precocious and ethereal.

What better way to kick off the new year than with the premiere of a newly commissioned show at the San Francisco Ballet? Mere Mortals is a collaboration between Canadian choreographer Aszure Barton and DJ and composer Floating Points. The work is a reimagining of the ancient Greek tale of Pandora's Box, adapting it to the modern era in which we live. Combining classical orchestral music and EDM, the ballet seeks to bring a new twist to the myth, questioning the potential of artificial intelligence and the risks it may pose if the box is left open. An innovative combination of a classical medium with modern electronic music, Mere Mortals is a must-see for longstanding ballet fans and newcomers alike!
