For their first program of winter 2017, the San Francisco Ballet celebrate the joy and jubilation of dance, beginning with Artistic Director Helgi Tomasson's well loved Haffner Symphony and ending with a much-requested encore of Justin Peck's paean to the urban jungle, In The Countenance of Kings.

A sublime classical tutu ballet, Tomasson's Haffner Symphony makes a welcome return to the SFT. Created in 1991 for the bicentennial of Mozart's Death, it received many plaudits for expertly translating the maestro's music with verve and clarity.

Fragile Vessels
Choreography: Jiri Bubenicek
Music: Rachmaninoff
Known alongisde his brother Otto as one of the Ballet Twins, Czech choreographer Jiri Bubenicek presents his first ballet for the company, after its premiere last season.

In The Countenance of Kings
Choreographer: Justin Peck
Music: Sufjan Stevens
Debuting in the 2016, this energising and exhilarating piece features plenty of drama as it reaches an explosive finale. Set to new score BQE, by Sufjan Stevens, a tribute to the Brooklyn-Queens-Expressway the regality suggested by the title is replaced with the romance of the city and all its movement.
