San Francisco Opera: Norma

"...her top notes ringing and powerful, her middle range velvety, her coloratura nimble and phrasing elegant"
The New York Times on Radvanovsky
Why see San Francisco Opera: Norma?
A twisting, tragic tale.
After a thunderous debut at the Met last year, Sondra Radvanovsky repeats her career defining role in Bellini's tragic tale for the SFO. One of the most demanding parts in the soprano repertoire, Norma displays the wealth of rich vocal control that is no match for this bona fide star.
Norma is the story of a high priestess who's people are threatened by the invasion of the Roman army. Torn between duty and desire, Norma falls in love with a solider Pollione and bears his children. When Pollione's eye strays, Norma is stuck in a quagmire, should she reveal her betrayal to her people? War and the anger of the gods is invoked in this highly emotive drama that pits love against the bitter-sweet taste of revenge!
